SPECIES DESCRIPTIONS

BALSAM FIR - The traditional Christmas tree with the traditional Christmas tree scent. We do not grow many Balsams as the tree breaks new growth very early in the spring and is subject to damage by late frost. Dark green color, soft medium needles, medium to stiff branches.
After fresh cut with proper care, this tree should satisfy most people's goals of keeping a tree up until twelfth night (Jan. 6).Next year(2008) we will plant a special cultivar of balsam that breaks new growth later.

CANAAN FIR- Similar to Balsam  Fir in appearance.Tolerates more wetness than Fraser Fir and breaks new growth later than Balsam Fir thus making it a good tree to grow.

CONCOLOR FIR - Longer (1 - 11 /2") soft blue green to blue needles. Usually the longest lasting tree and has a citrus aroma. Truly a most beautiful tree but not attractive to some due to needle color and length. Very slow growing tree.

FRASER FIR - Currently the most popular tree on the east coast. Excellent needle retention, stiff branches, short dark green needles, traditional Christmas tree scent (although slightly less strong than Balsam) strong branches. Our biggest seller. Deer love it

DOUGLAS FIR - Should last until late January. Lighter green needles. Very dense formal tree. Branches less strong than some others.

COLORADO (BLUE) SPRUCE - Very sharp needles 3/4 - 1" long. Color varies from medium green to bright blue. Scent can be pungent. A striking tree when properly used. For ease, erect tree inside for 2 days prior to decorating. Needles will soften and tree will be friendlier. Deer resistant.

WHITE SPRUCE - Very short green to blue green needles. Tree grows dense without much sheering. Fair to good needle retention with a sometimes pungent scent. Pretty tree - easy to grow.Deer resistant.

NORWAY SPRUCE - Not suitable for Christmas trees. - Poor needle retention. Very fast growing tree. Great ornamental, often used for Rockefeller Center Tree.
